He's an indigenous activist and hip-hop artist who's been fighting for the environment since he was 6. Now he and 20 other young people are taking politicians to court for inaction on climate change as part of the #YouthVGov movement.
Extreme weather killed her family's crops. So, she launched a student movement that led to worldwide attention. Hilda has been protesting in Kampala since 2017 when she realized that climate change was behind her grandmother's inability to grow food. In February 2019, she founded #FridaysForFuture Uganda.
She is a member of the Xakriabá people, whose traditional lands are drying up. She joined the Global Alliance of Territorial Communities 25 million indigenous people around the world who are battling to protect their homelands from climate change. Xakriabá’s message to protesters around the world, and in the climate change fight — is in part a show of global solidarity for her fellow young people, bolstered by an urgent warning of the perils of ignoring Indigenous peoples and undervaluing the environment.
When deadly floods hit her hometown of Haridwar on the Ganges River she petitioned the government for action. So, she took the matter to global leaders. She is the 11-year-old who sued the Indian government for inaction on climate change. She is also one of the 16 child activists who filed a complaint with the UN.
