A SWAT commando with the Delhi Police, who was four months pregnant, died five days after she was allegedly assaulted by her husband at their home in Delhi, police said.
The victim, identified as Kajal Chaudhary, was reportedly attacked by her husband, Ankur Chaudhary, during a domestic dispute at their residence in the Mohan Garden area of west Delhi on 22 January. Police said she sustained severe head injuries during the incident.
She was first taken to a nearby medical facility and later referred to a private hospital in Ghaziabad after her condition deteriorated. Despite undergoing treatment for several days, she died on 27 January.
Details of the Incident
According to investigators, Kajal’s brother Nikhil, who is also a constable with the Delhi Police, was on a phone call with her when the argument began. He has alleged that he heard the assault taking place during the call. Minutes later, Ankur reportedly contacted him again and informed him of the incident.
Police sources said the accused allegedly used a heavy object during the assault. The exact sequence of events is being reconstructed as part of the investigation.

Motive and Background
Preliminary enquiries suggest that the couple had frequent disagreements related to financial stress and outstanding loans. Kajal’s family has also alleged that she was subjected to dowry-related harassment by her husband and in-laws following her marriage in 2023.
Police said these allegations are being examined and relevant legal provisions may be added based on the findings of the investigation.
The couple has a young son, who is currently in the care of Kajal’s parents.

Legal Action
Ankur Chaudhary, who is employed as a clerk with the Ministry of Defence, was arrested within hours of the incident. The case was initially registered as attempted murder and was later converted to murder following Kajal’s death.
Police said forensic evidence has been collected from the scene and further charges, including those related to dowry harassment, may be added as the investigation progresses.
