Kanchan Bai Meghwal, an Anganwadi cook from Neemuch district in Madhya Pradesh, died after saving nearly 20 children during a sudden bee attack at an Anganwadi centre.
The incident occurred while the children were playing outside the centre premises. Without warning, a swarm of bees descended on the area, putting the children at immediate risk.
Seeing the danger, Kanchan Bai acted quickly. She picked up tarpaulins and mats lying nearby and wrapped the children in them. She then moved them inside the Anganwadi centre to get them out of harm’s way.
As the bees continued to attack, she placed herself between the swarm and the children. The bees stung her repeatedly, but she did not step away until she was sure that every child was safe.
Villagers rushed her to the nearest Community Health Centre. Doctors declared her dead on arrival.
According to a PubMed report, cases of multiple bee stings are rising worldwide.
Medical experts have warned that several bee stings can lead to hematuria, kidney complications and inflammation in kidney filters.
