Chandan Kumar, from Purnia, Bihar, is known online as a “biology and injection teacher”. He shared snippets from his coaching classes on social media, where he taught students about reproductive health and birth control. In one lesson, Kumar used a cucumber and a condom to demonstrate how to put on a condom and explain how it works. The videos drew mixed reactions on social media. Some viewers criticised the approach, while other social media users supported the teacher and said he had done nothing wrong. Sex education aims to help young people make informed and respectful choices about relationships and sexuality. A 2018 study by Columbia University linked sex education with lower risks of sexual violence among young people. The classroom demonstrations have also renewed discussion around sex education in India, where talking about sex is considered taboo.
