Sanjeev Khirwar, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner, is facing scrutiny after a five-storey building collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan on 6 September 2026, killing seven people. Khirwar said the building, constructed in the 1970s, had not received a notice or sealing order and that there was no complaint against it. He also said its owner had paid property tax and conversion charges. Khirwar previously faced scrutiny in 2022 after allegations that athletes were asked to leave Thyagaraj Stadium early so he could walk his dog. He denied the allegations and was later transferred to Ladakh. He was appointed MCD Commissioner in January 2026. Following the Satya Niketan collapse, ABVP and other groups have called for his resignation.
