A video from Pune’s Indapur showed two sons assaulting their elderly parents over a dispute involving the sale of land registered in their mother’s name. As per the police complaint, 65-year-old Tukaram Kisan Raut and his wife Anjana were walking on a road when they were stopped by their sons, Sanjay Tukaram Raut and Rajendra Tukaram Raut, on 30 August. The argument allegedly escalated into an assault, with the brothers seen beating both parents with wooden sticks, abusing them and threatening further violence if the land was not returned. Raut reportedly suffered injuries to his back, face, thighs and left shoulder, while Anjana sustained injuries around her right wrist and waist. People in the area alerted the police after noticing the commotion, and the couple was taken for medical treatment. A case was registered against the two brothers, with police investigating into the matter. Land and property disputes are estimated to account for around 66% of all civil cases in India, highlighting how disputes over ownership and property often end up in court.
