A couple visiting a house for rent in Patiala were attacked by a pet Pitbull, leaving both injured. The woman, Shifali, suffered injuries to her arm and other parts of her body and required surgery. Her husband, Ankit, was bitten while trying to stop the dog and required stitches. The incident has brought attention to rules governing Pitbull ownership in India. Chandigarh's 2025 pet bylaws prohibit the keeping of American Pitbulls and other listed breeds, but rules differ across jurisdictions. In March 2024, the Centre issued a circular covering 23 dog breeds, including Pitbulls. High Courts later intervened, including the Karnataka High Court, which quashed the circular, and the Delhi High Court, which set it aside.
