A 46-year-old woman died after falling into a container of hot sambar during a Ganeshotsav annadanam programme in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, on 20 September. The woman, identified as Maddhi Sujatha, was helping with the cooking arrangements for the community meal. She lost her balance while carrying a large vessel of hot sambar and fell into it, suffering burn injuries. People at the spot pulled Sujatha out and rushed her to a government hospital, where she was admitted for treatment. Despite medical efforts, she died while undergoing treatment the following day. Police registered a case following the incident and were investigating whether there were any lapses in the safety arrangements at the programme.
