Apoorva Mukhija has moved to New York to study for an MBA. On Untriggered, the creator spoke about wanting a life outside the creator bubble, starting college again and why she thinks her ‘Kaleshi Aurat’ phase is over.
Apoorva Mukhija is going back to college.
The creator, better known as Rebel Kid, has moved to New York to pursue an MBA. She revealed the move during a recent episode of Untriggered By AminJaz, where she also spoke about why she wanted to live in New York, what she hopes will change and whether she plans to keep making content.
For someone whose life has played out online for years, the move is a pretty big change.
And Mukhija seems to know that.
‘I Really Want To Live Here’
Mukhija said she had wanted to live in New York for a long time.
She had travelled to the city before, but said that when she eventually landed there, she had a very simple reaction: she wanted to stay.
She liked the pace of the city, the way people dressed, the food and the architecture. She also spoke about growing up seeing New York in the films and shows she loved.
So she applied to one college in the city.
And got in.
Mukhija has now moved there and will be living in a dorm while she studies.
She also confirmed the move on Instagram, writing: “So I don't live in India anymore.”
She Wants To Meet People Who Aren’t Creators
The MBA is only one part of the reason she wanted to go back to college.
Mukhija said she wants to meet people outside the world she has been surrounded by for years.
Most of her current social circle is connected to the creator industry, she explained. College, she hopes, will give her a chance to meet people who have nothing to do with content creation.
There is also a personal reason.
Mukhija said she feels she did not really have the college experience she wanted the first time around. She was in a relationship from the beginning of college and spent much of those years with the same person.
This time, she wants to actually have a college life.
‘Kaleshi Aurat Is Dead Now’
Then there is the version of Apoorva that millions of people know online.
The loud, argumentative, chaotic ‘Kaleshi Aurat’ persona became a big part of Rebel Kid's identity.
But Mukhija says she has moved on from it.
“Kaleshi Aurat is dead now,” she said on the podcast.
She knows what works on the internet. She knows what people will watch and what can make money. But she also seems less interested in constantly performing that version of herself.
And that could affect the amount of content she makes.
She Might Not Make As Many Videos
Mukhija was surprisingly open about how little she currently wants to make content.
She said she has not made anything in a long time simply because she wanted to.
A lot of the time, she said, she ends up making videos because she has a brand deal to fulfil.
In New York, she wants to give herself more freedom.
If she feels like making something, she will.
If she doesn't, she might not.
She also said she may not be as consistent with her storytime videos.
For a creator whose early popularity came from talking directly to the camera about her life, that is an interesting change.
The Problem With Being Cancelled
The conversation also touched on something Mukhija has dealt with repeatedly over the past couple of years: online backlash.
She said she is tired of the cycle of getting cancelled and then having to make a comeback.
Even when she tries to filter what she says, she said she still sometimes does not understand why something has become a problem.
But there is a more practical side to it too.
Mukhija said being cancelled for even a few weeks can affect her brand deals. When brands stop working with her, she stops making money.
And she was quite frank about the fact that she likes making money.
That, she said, is what she dislikes most about being cancelled.
What About The India’s Got Latent Controversy?
Mukhija's move comes after the controversy surrounding India’s Got Latent in February 2025.
She was part of the episode featuring Ranveer Allahbadia, whose remarks about parents and sex triggered widespread backlash. Mukhija also faced criticism over her interaction with a contestant.
FIRs were subsequently filed against several people connected to the episode, including Mukhija. She later appeared before authorities in connection with the case.
But there is an important distinction here.
Mukhija has not said that she moved to New York because of the controversy.
In the Untriggered conversation, she spoke about New York as a place she had wanted to live in for years. She also talked about studying, meeting new people and wanting to experience college differently this time.
The discussion about cancellations and the impact on her career was part of the wider conversation about how her life has changed.
So, while the timing is notable, it would be misleading to say she left India to escape the controversy.

So, What Happens To Rebel Kid Now?
That is probably the more interesting question.
Mukhija is still going to make content, at least for now. But she seems less interested in being constantly online.
She is moving to a new city, going back to college and trying to build a social life outside the creator industry.
And she is leaving behind at least one version of herself.
The ‘Kaleshi Aurat’, according to Mukhija herself, is dead.
What comes next for Rebel Kid might look very different.
