A woman from Uttar Pradesh has alleged that her husband assaulted her and tried to strangle her after she got her period during their honeymoon in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in 2023.
The allegations have come to light after an FIR was recently registered in connection with the incident.
According to the woman's complaint, she married Nikhil Mishra in Delhi on 30 May 2023.
About a month later, on 4 July 2023, the couple travelled to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for their honeymoon.

What happened during the honeymoon?
The woman alleged that she began experiencing severe pain and bleeding during the trip after her period started.
According to her complaint, Mishra became angry and questioned why she had not told him about her period earlier.
She alleged that he then assaulted her and attempted to strangle her.
She further claimed that hotel staff heard her screams, rushed to the room and intervened.
The allegations are part of the woman's complaint and have not been established in court.

What did she allege about dowry?
The woman also made allegations of dowry-related harassment against her husband and his family.
According to her complaint, her father had given around ₹20 lakh in cash, a car and other items worth around Rs. 40 lakh at the time of the marriage.
She alleged that her in-laws later taunted her over the items given by her family, referring to them as dowry.
She also alleged that she was eventually thrown out of her matrimonial home around 45 days after the wedding.

What happened after the alleged assault?
The woman's family alleged that they made several attempts to approach the police after the incident.
According to the complaint, the two families also tried to resolve the matter between themselves.
However, several attempts by both families to reach a settlement failed.
An FIR was recently registered against the woman's husband and in-laws over the alleged 2023 incidents.
Nikhil Mishra's family has not yet issued a statement responding to the allegations.
The case is now subject to investigation, and the allegations against the accused have not been proven in court.
