The life of Lizzo

"I've used sadness as a tool for gratitude." She's become an icon of self-love, but her journey to confidence wasn't easy. This is the story of Lizzo.

She promotes self-love and is an icon of body-positivity

**This is Melissa Jefferson, known to the world as Lizzo **

Lizzo was born in 1988 in Detroit in a family of music lovers. She grew up listening to gospel music, but also Elton John and Queen. At 9, she moved to Houston, Texas, where she discovered hip-hop. At 12, she started playing the flute in her school’s marching band. This is Sasha Flute. As a teenager, she was uncomfortable in her own skin. At 14, she created her first rap crew, the Cornrow clique, with two of her friends and started using the alias Lizzo. In 2005, she attended college on a music scholarship but dropped out the same year.

At 20, she joined the band Ellypseas as a flutist and singer. On March 17, 2009, her father passed away. She became depressed and lived in her car for almost a year. Following a friend’s advice, she ended up moving to Minneapolis. There, she formed two all-female groups, and was spotted by Prince as well as producer Lazerbeak. At 25, she released her first album “Lizzobangers” and was featured on Time magazine's list of 14 Musical Acts to Watch in 2014 a few months later. In 2014, she was featured on Prince’s song “Boy Trouble.” In 2015, she released her second album “Big GRRRL Small World” and left Minneapolis for Los Angeles.

She effortlessly alternates between rap, pop and soul

At 29, after the release of her future hit “Truth Hurts,” she thought about quitting music. In November 2019, she was nominated for 8 Grammy Awards with her third album “Cuz I Love You,” breaking that year’s record. In January 2020, Lizzo took a break from her Australian tour to volunteer at Melbourne’s food bank to help bushfire victims in Australia. At 31, she’s found global fame, and even Barack Obama listens to her music.

I don’t understand her she’s so hypocritical. She complains about the media bashing her yet she presents herself and a very unflattering light.
