A Steller sea lion entangled in plastic was rescued in the San Juan Islands, between San Juan Island and Lopez, thanks to a coordinated effort by SeaDoc Society, Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Society, San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, and The Whale Museum. Field veterinarians Joe Gaydos, Marty Haulena, and Faye Giebink led the successful disentanglement under NOAA’s authority. This rescue highlights the urgent need to stop plastic pollution in our oceans.
