A years-long marital dispute took a violent turn at Firozabad’s busy DAV Market in the Kotla Chungi area on Tuesday night, when a husband allegedly confronted his wife and another man at a shop.

Within minutes, gunshots rang out, leaving two people injured and a family dispute spilling into a crowded public space.

But the most disturbing part of the incident involved the couple’s two young sons, who were reportedly present that night.

What happened at the shop, what had led to the confrontation, and how did a troubled marriage reach this point?

How Was Their Marriage?

Rishabh Tailang, 35, and his wife Shipra, 32, had been married for around 10 years and have two sons.

Their relationship had reportedly been troubled for around three years. Shipra had been living separately from Rishabh at her maternal home, where the two children also stayed.

According to her family, there had been disputes between the couple over Rishabh's alleged relationship with another woman.

The couple had, however, started living together again a few months before the shooting, according to Jagran.

On Tuesday night, Shipra reportedly left home saying she was going to meet a lawyer.

Rishabh allegedly became suspicious and followed her.

He reportedly took their two sons with him and went to the shop of Jitendra Thakur, alias Sunny, near Kotla Chungi.

That is where the marital dispute turned into a shooting.

What Happened At The Shop?

It was around 9:45 pm.

The area around Kotla Chungi was still busy. The Ramleela performance at a nearby ground had ended about an hour earlier, but people were still coming and going.

Shipra was inside Sunny's internet service shop.

According to Jagran, the shop was dark when Rishabh arrived. He knocked on the door and Sunny came outside. Rishabh then allegedly entered the shop and switched on the light.

Shipra was sitting on a chair inside.

A bottle of alcohol and a glass were reportedly lying on the table.

Rishabh allegedly confronted Sunny. A brief scuffle reportedly took place before the situation escalated.

He then allegedly pulled out his licensed revolver and opened fire.

The first shots sent people outside into panic.

Shipra and Sunny reportedly ran out of the shop after being hit.

Rishabh allegedly followed them, continuing to fire as they tried to escape.

A witness quoted by Jagran said people initially could not understand what was happening. Then they saw the woman and the shopkeeper running out while Rishabh was allegedly chasing them with the firearm.

The two victims eventually collapsed after being hit.

Sunny suffered multiple bullet injuries, including wounds around his chest and ribs.

Shipra was shot in her left shoulder, abdomen and left rib. Another bullet grazed her hand. She reportedly managed to reach a nearby shop after the shooting and asked the shopkeeper to inform her family.

Both were rushed to a hospital before being referred to Agra for treatment because of the seriousness of their injuries.

Sunny was reportedly in a more serious condition.

The couple's children were reportedly present when the shooting happened.

Their two sons, aged around 10 and eight, had allegedly accompanied Rishabh when he followed Shipra.

According to a video that circulated after the incident, one of the boys recorded the shooting on his phone.

As his father allegedly fired at Shipra and Sunny, the child could reportedly be heard pleading with him: “Papa nahi, Papa ye nahi…”

The footage reportedly captured the chaos as the shooting unfolded.

Why Did Rishabh Allegedly Open Fire?

Police's preliminary investigation suggests Rishabh suspected his wife, Shipra, of having a relationship with Jitendra Thakur alias Sunny.

He allegedly found the two together at the shop and confronted them.

Rishabh then allegedly pulled out his licensed revolver and opened fire.

Police are investigating the suspected relationship as the motive behind the shooting.

What Action Has Police Taken?

The shooting was reported to police around 8:45-9 pm.

Police reached the area and, with the help of local residents, caught Rishabh at the spot.

His licensed revolver and empty cartridges were recovered.

Police and forensic teams also examined the scene as part of the investigation.

The case was registered on a complaint filed by Sunny's wife, who accused Rishabh of the attack.

Rishabh was arrested and produced before a court. He was subsequently sent to jail, while the investigation continued.

Firozabad SSP Aditya Langeh said the injured were taken to hospital and that further investigation was underway. Police were also examining the circumstances leading to the firing and the alleged relationship that formed the backdrop to the confrontation.

The Bigger Question

The Firozabad shooting raises a larger question about how marital disputes involving suspicion, separation and alleged affairs are handled before they escalate into violence.

When a relationship is already strained, what happens when confrontation replaces communication and a firearm is also involved?

The incident also raises questions about the presence of children during such conflicts. In this case, the couple's sons were reportedly present when the shooting took place.

A private marital dispute ultimately spilled into a crowded market, leaving two people injured and children witnessing the violence. The bigger concern is how such conflicts can be identified and addressed before they reach a point of no return.
