Delhi Police has issued warnings against participating in the 10 October protest at Jantar Mantar, where demonstrators are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Police have taken measures across the national capital to prevent gatherings, including announcements at public places and the installation of CCTV cameras.
In Old Delhi, a police officer made an announcement inside a mosque, asking people not to participate in the protest. The officer urged them to advise their children and family members against joining what the officer described as “unnecessary” gatherings.
Police have also been using marketplaces and other gathering places to communicate similar messages. Loudspeakers are broadcasting recorded announcements asking people not to gather in large numbers.
According to the information provided, 15 detention centres have been prepared across Delhi, while additional CCTV cameras are being installed. Police are also monitoring people travelling to the capital by road, rail and air.
In Madhya Pradesh, 21 people travelling towards Delhi on the Goa Express were detained at Itarsi. Police said they had information that a large group of youths travelling to Delhi could disturb the peace.
Police have reiterated that permission has not been granted for the Jantar Mantar protest and have warned of legal action against those who participate.
The measures come ahead of the 10 October demonstration demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
