A family eats noodles for dinner and goes to bed, but by the next morning, five members are found dead. The incident in Greater Noida initially raised suspicions of food poisoning, but what police uncovered during the investigation soon pointed to a different angle.

The deaths of a couple and their three children have left investigators trying to piece together what happened inside the house and what led to the tragedy.

What began as a suspected poisoning case has taken a new turn.

What Happened In Greater Noida?

On Saturday, 17 October 2026, five members of a family were found dead at their home in Nagla Padam village, in the Rabupura area of Greater Noida.

The deceased were identified as Mahesh, 37, his wife Lalita, 35, and their three children: Sakshat, 11, Mishti, 7, and Riyansh, 3.

The deaths initially raised suspicions of food poisoning. Reports said the family had consumed tea and noodles the previous night before going to sleep.

However, as investigators examined the circumstances, a voice note recovered from Mahesh's mobile phone brought a possible family dispute into focus.

From A Suspected Food Poisoning Case To A Property Dispute

When the deaths first came to light, investigators considered whether contaminated food could have caused the tragedy. The family had reportedly eaten noodles and drunk tea before going to bed.

Post-mortem examinations subsequently indicated signs of poisoning. However, this did not establish whether the poisoning was accidental or deliberate, or determine the exact substance involved.

Police sent preserved viscera samples for forensic analysis. The final findings are needed to establish the cause of death.

Meanwhile, investigators began examining the possibility of a property dispute within the family. According to preliminary police information, Mahesh was distressed after learning that the house in which he lived with his mother, Chandrawati, had allegedly been transferred into the name of his elder sister, Sunita.

Police said Sunita had allegedly influenced their mother to make the transfer. Investigators are looking into whether the dispute contributed to the deaths.

These allegations remain under investigation, and the property dispute alone does not establish the circumstances in which the five family members died.

The Voice Note That Changed The Investigation

The investigation took a significant turn on Sunday, 18 October, when police recovered a voice note recorded by Mahesh on his mobile phone.

According to police, Mahesh allegedly held three relatives responsible for his family's plight. They were identified as his elder sister Sunita, 45, younger sister Sapna, 32, and brother-in-law Shekhar, also known as Chandrashekhar, 50.

The recording became a key lead in the investigation, bringing the alleged property dispute and the relatives' roles under scrutiny.

Police also examined CCTV footage from the area around the house. Officials said the footage did not show an outsider entering the premises around the time of the incident.

However, the absence of a recorded outsider's entry does not, by itself, establish exactly how the deaths occurred. Investigators are examining the available evidence alongside the forensic findings.

What Action Have Police Taken?

On Sunday, police arrested Sunita, Sapna and Shekhar in connection with the deaths. According to The New Indian Express, the arrests followed a complaint filed by Lalita's brother. Police registered a case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with abetment to suicide.

Police are investigating the alleged property dispute and examining Mahesh's voice note and CCTV footage. Forensic teams and officials from the Food Safety Department also visited the scene, while viscera samples were sent for laboratory analysis to establish the cause of death.

As of 19 October 2026, the forensic findings were awaited. Investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the five deaths and assess the evidence against the three arrested relatives. The allegations remain under investigation.
