I wonder I there are studies comparing the carbon and waste footprint of the same number of people of a cruise ship traveling individually to the same destinations.

Sure the cruise lines try to convince their passengers on how they treat their waste before being dumped at sea but the reality is there is more food and energy wasted than anything else. For what ? Selfish and irresponsible people !!

I think going on a cruise ship is dumb. I think it's one of the dumbest things you can do, personally. Being on a boat isn't as cool these days as it was in our nation's recent history in the context of a century. Even within the past 100 years before aviation really "took off" (no pun intended) boats were cool and had more purpose. Nowadays, it just seems like all you hear about is boating accidents, people being stranded on cruise ships or caught in storms with no plumbing, electricity, and unsanitary conditions. You're literally putting yourself in a situation for bad things to happen just because you think it's cool to be out on the water in a boat. This isn't the same thing as taking a flight from NY to LA because it saves you days of travel time compared to any other means. Being on a huge boat in the middle of the ocean is a unique situation with dynamics/dangers unique to it as well. They don't readily meet the eye to people just looking for something fun to do on vacation. It's only when it's too late that many people realize it was a bad idea. It's not worth it. You can rent a motor boat, take a different kind of boat tour other than a huge cruise ship with a ton of other people, there's different ways to experience this than a bunch of people all loading up on a boat to replay scenes from the titanic.

, this is my conundrum with cruises. Even without COVID-19 making it impossible, I probably won't be going on one until they clean up their policies.

Talk about air pollution, remember when homes and other buildings were heated mostly with coal, wood, or oil heat, before natural gas or electric systems!
